MR BONGO ANNOUNCE INAUGURAL EDITS SERIES: DANNY KRIVIT On The Splice

Like all good edits, there is a special few that can turn and twist a classic track into something fresh and new. Breathing new life into a treasured piece of music is no easy task, that is of course unless you are Danny Krivit.

So who better to inaugurate the brilliant new Mr Bongo Edit Series than one of the masters of the art of the edit, and clearly one of the originators of re-edit culture.

Danny Krivit, master turntablist and producer grew up in New York, with his roots surrounded by Jazz music (his mother a Jazz singer and Father Jazz trumpeter Chet Baker manager.) This schooling inevitably lead him to a career in the business, absorbing both the sounds of New York City and the flavour of a metropolis dripping in creativity at that time.

For those not familiar with his musical prowess, then lean in. Danny who was brought up in Greenwich Village, started out DJing at Ninth Circle at the age of just fourteen. A regular at Paradise Garage and The Loft, he has seen a spectrum of genres and trends come and go, cutting his teeth on the decks and on reel-to-reel through the hypes on disco, hip hop and house music as a DJ, which has earned him a well placed position as one of the most respected DJ's on the planet to this day.

Not content with being a premier league jock, Krivit is also known for his incredible edits career estimated to be at over 500 spliced tracks for artist such as Sade, Blaze, Jazzanova, Chaka Khan, Earth Wind & Fire Sade and many other re-edits including one of his most prolific, the 11 minute epic from MFSB ' Love Is The Message". For those who are familiar with the track then you'll hear that it is far removed from the high-energy drama, and uses clever and intelligent sections from the Salsoul Orchestra's ' Ohh I Love It" sampled to amplify and push the track into new ground, was it the birth of the remix before Donna Summer?... you decide.

His techniques is more than just simple re-touches or loops to make the track easier to mix. Back when Danny started out remixing tracks were a fairly new concept, made entirely for the dancefloor most of those early tracks never saw the light of day, with many rarely sharing these edits with their peers, or other DJ's, in fact there was frustrations as some of the engineers at the time couldn't grasp the concept, with only those DJ's who were filling clubs week after week, understood how they worked, having first had first hand account from the response to track from their audiences and club goers.

On this essential 12" Danny works his magic by employing all those years of studying and working with music as a remixer, producer and DJ and here on this superb version of Sabu Martinez Hotel Alyssa-Sousse, Tunisia’, the result is pure Latin fire.

On the flip The Belgian / Dutch orchestra leader Nico Gomez "Lupita" from 1971 isan undisputed banger, this underground Latin-crossover favourite has been causing mayhem on dancefloors for years. For this Danny takes it into
another sphere, sticking to the original adding extra drama and build-ups, adding and overlaying fresh percussion which sounds like it could have been taken from lost outtakes and deceptive skill. Even those who may have heard Lupita countless times, are sure to be impressed by the new lease of life that Danny has breathed into the track,

2 huge tracks and 2 killer edits from a master of the craft. Repurposing, editing  and using that deft hand to maximum effect.
