2021.10.28If you were feeling Nippon Columbia ( and it's Better Days sub-label) compilation 'Tokyo Dreaming' released back in 2020, then this new compilation curated by DJ Notoya, delves further into the archives of one the country's most storied imprints.
'Tokyo Glow' curated by DJ Notoya starts with ' Kimugare' which is in the spirit of the long player is a mid tempo number by the famous actress Kumi Nakumura, she recorded one album back in 1980 for Columbia which has become sought after by Japanese city pop afficianadios and the sample seekers.
Nippon Columbia opened their much-guarded vaults to curator DJ Natoya. Tracks were remastered in Tokyo and the result, ‘Tokyo Glow’, is a unique insight into a most creative period in Japanese music.
As the album plays out, The set continues and flows effortlessly with the sunshine grooves of Miyuki Maki, Hatsumi Shibata and cult keyboard player Hiroshi Sato.
Later into the album, things get funky, with New Generation Company, Kengo Kurozumi on his boogie ' Juggler' track.
New Generation company, an aggregate group of some of the best Japanese session musicians and led by Katz Hoshi is a homage to the talent and showcases the diversity and specificity of Japanese City Pop during the late 70s and 80s.
